Church as we know it...

A few things that are really hard for people to get away from what church is as we know it...

:If you don't meet on Sunday Mornings then there's something wrong.

:If you don't have a Senior Pastor then you're doing something wrong.

:If you don't do 4 Chris Tomlin songs and at least 1 hymn then your doing it wrong.

:If you don't have an alter call each service then you're doing something wrong.

:If you don't have chairs lined up or pews facing the alter then you're doing it wrong.

:If you don't have a statement of faith listed somewhere online then you are a heretic.

:And if you actually have wine available for communion then you've caused the whole church to stumble and you should quit calling yourself a Christian.

Another night at Crossview

Starting a church has been an interesting challenge.  This Saturday night was our second gathering so far and yet again it was full of anticipation.  The sound was a lot better than last week and the transitions seemed to flow together with more ease than the previous service.  There were about forty people that showed this week and it seemed very much like we are beginning to find our core group of family.  Our hope for Crossview is to move in our community missionally and purposefully.  We want to influence the community not only for the sake of Jesus but also just to be good and loving human beings.  I look forward to what opportunities we will find within the next few months.

I have updated the website with podcasting and media so those of you that want see what we're up to you can.  This is only the beginning and I have never felt such peace and liberty as I do today.

I was an idiot of a pastor once...

There used to be a time in my life where I would have moved hundreds of miles to just become a worship leader or hold some type of pastorial office at a church. Now, I would rather clean sewers and shovel manure than become a pastor or leader in the modern church. From where I have been it is very rare to see Jesus be the center of it all. Yeah, we may have talked about Him, shared the things He has done, and even spent time singing songs about Him, but He was never the one in control. Modern church has sucked the joy out of me, taken my passion from me, and skewed my vision.

But today is a different day. Church is more than what we make it. It’s more than bible studies and worship songs, more than pastors and secretaries, or bulletins and buildings. Modern church thought and culture is killing and suffocating the generation that is now being raised up as leaders in the church. If there is no continual reform then there is no life and the church is dead. How do we reach a culture that finds no interest in our liturgy? How do we respond to people that see our hypocrisy? We reform, we change, and we allow Christ to do it.

People need more than Moses-type wannabes that run the church as its CEO. If I am going to be a leader then we are all going to be leaders in some way or another. We all have a voice and we are going to continually let that voice be heard…change will happen, action will take place.
